Prisons in Uttarakhand are kept many times more prisoners than their capacity. Haldwani jail holds 241 percent more prisoners than capacity. At the second place, 232 prisoners are 227 percent more than the capacity in Almora Jail, while the capacity is 102 prisoners. At the third place, 1305 inmates are 225 per cent of capacity in Dehradun jail, currently only 580 inmates, besides 1320 inmates (157 per cent more) in Haridwar jail, 492 inmates in Roorkee jail (202 per cent more), 144 prisoners (203 percent more) are kept in Nainital. There are 168 prisoners (112 percent more) in Tehri jail, 156 (104 percent more) prisoners in Pauri.
