In the midst of the Hijab issue around the country, the state of Arunachal Pradesh has made a new breakthrough in the school uniform sector by allowing students to wear traditional dress on Mondays in addition to the mandated school uniform on other days.

According to the APPSCWA, private schools in Arunachal Pradesh have decided to allow students to wear traditional attire on one day of the week, Monday. The choice was developed with the aim of conceptualising and promoting the rich traditional tribal attires.

On Sunday, February 6, officials from more than 180 educational institutions in the state, as well as the APPSCWA (Arunachal Pradesh Private Schools and Children Welfare Association), met to discuss the decision to allow traditional wear in schools. Trah Jhony, the VP of the Arunachal Pradesh Private Schools and Children Welfare Association, stated that a decision was adopted at the Sunday meeting to make it necessary for students to wear traditional attire to school on the first day of the week.

The vice president of the organisation went on to say that the majority of the parents of the school students made ideas concerning the problem, and a decision was taken as a consequence.  He also informed that the students from now onwards will get the freedom to wear their own traditional dress irrespective of communities.

Jhony stated that a Galo student can wear a Galo clothing, a Nyishi student can wear Nyishi apparel, a Singhpho student can wear a Singhpho outfit, and a non-tribal student can wear the traditional dress of their culture. Yowa Bullet, the president of the group, stated that while students may wear traditional clothing, they would not be permitted to wear accessories such as numerous ornaments or a dao known as a machete. Wearing accessories may be harmful to other students at school, according to the APPSCWA president.
