Mumbai: Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP, urged the Punjab government to maintain peace and order a day after a conflict between two groups in Patiala, Punjab.
Her words are significant because the Shiv Sena's Punjab unit removed a leader who called a gathering in Patiala on Friday, just hours after police opened fire to disperse Sena supporters and members of another minority in the city, which was tense.

Harish Singla, who claims to be the working president of the Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray), was dismissed for "anti-party activities" on orders from party supremo Uddhav Thackeray, according to Yograj Sharma, the Sena's state chief. Singla has been detained by Punjab police at this time.

Chaturvedi tweeted today about this information: "Please correct all reporting on the Punjab story that refers to Harish Singla as being from the Shiv Sena; he was dismissed from the party and his actions have nothing to do with it. It is the Punjab government's job to guarantee peace and order prevails, and we hope they do so."

From 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. today, the Punjab government temporarily banned mobile internet access in the city.

Due to recent law and order events, there is a risk of tension, annoyance, obstruction, or injury to persons, danger to human life and property, and disturbance of public peace and serenity within the bounds of district Patiala, according to an official order.

The order stated that preventing the spread of misinformation is required "to disrupt the designs and activities of anti-national and anti-social groups/elements, maintain peace and communal harmony, and prevent any loss of life or damage to public/private property."
