New Delhi: Congress Party National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday requested Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath to conduct a CBI inquiry into the death of a ABP Ganga channel journalist in Pratapgarh district under suspicious circumstances. The journalist Sulabh Srivastava died under mysterious circumstances in Pratapgarh on the night of June 13. Sulabh (42) had written to the Additional Director General of Police, Prayagraj Zone on June 12 seeking protection after running the news against the liquor mafia.

Priyanka said in a letter to CM Yogi that, "On June 12, Sulabh Srivastava had told ADG (Prayagraj Zone) that the local liquor mafia was enraged by his news on illicit liquor and was concerned about the safety of himself and his family. He was found dead under mysterious circumstances a day after the letter was sent to the administration.'' Congress leader Priyanka said Sulabh Srivastava's family and journalist colleagues have demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter and bring out the truth.

Priyanka claimed that "there have been reports of deaths due to poisonous liquor from many places in UP. Hundreds of people have died due to poisonous liquor from Aligarh to Pratapgarh. There is a possibility of a threat from the liquor mafia for showing news by a journalist that the rule of law in the state is over." She further demanded, "there should be a CBI inquiry into the matter. Action should be taken against the nexus between the liquor mafia and the administration that has taken root across the state. At the same time, financial assistance should be provided immediately to the victim's family and the dependents of the deceased.''
