Rising covid cases in the country are increasing the acute shortage of life-saving drugs Remedisvir and equipment. The production has almost doubled from next month to address the shortage of Remediver Injection. The Union Secretary has told the Chief Secretaries of all the states and union territories in this regard. The production of life-saving remdesivir injection used in the treatment of coronavirus patients is about to be doubled. The Union Home Ministry said that a target has been set to increase production in view of the shortage of medicine in the country. The coming month is to be done from 38.80 lakh units per month to 74 lakh units per month.

Remdesivir to be cut off from next month: Ministry has asked state governments and Union Territories to ensure uninterrupted supply and transport of remdesivir. Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has written to chief secretaries of all states and Union Territories saying that supply and allocation of life-saving injections for state governments and Union Territories are going to be interim from April 21 to April 30. He said that on a daily basis, a monitoring mechanism has been developed to streamline the daily supply of coronavirus drugs. There is a tight pressure on supply due to the rapid increase in demand for remdesivir injection and imported drug tocilizumab.

Target to double production from next month: Patra said, "7 licensed manufacturers of Remdesivir injection in the country have increased their production capacity to 38 by early May 2021. Several steps have been taken to increase the number of units from 8 lakh units per month to 74 lakh units per month. The Home Secretary informed that the Department of Health and Family Welfare and Department of Pharmaceuticals has been informed to the State Governments and Union Territories about the interim allocation from April 21 to April 30 that all these are for supply from licensed domestic manufacturers. Bhalla said, "I would also personally appeal to all to monitor the supply of essential medicines under the Covid treatment protocol. Appoint a nodal officer in your state who will be responsible for unhindered and timely ordering in his state as per the allocation of Remdesivir".
