Lucknow: The Election Commission has sought a response on the Samajwadi Party (SP) registering with a promise of 300 units of electricity free after the government was formed. A complaint was lodged with the Election Commission over the SP's campaign. The complaint was made terming it as a case of inducement. The Commission has now sought a report from the election authorities of all the districts.

In fact, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former CM Akhilesh Yadav has promised 300 units of electricity free if the government is formed. The party has launched the Naam Lekhao campaign to take advantage of the scheme. High Court counsel Amit Jaiswal has objected to it and lodged a complaint. He has complained to the Election Commission that inducements and bribes are being paid for votes under the campaign. These are a blatant violation of the Code of Conduct. He said in the complaint that the Election Commission should investigate the entire matter and stay it.

The Election Commission has now summoned reports from election officials of all districts. The Election Commission will take a decision on the matter after receiving the report. There is no official response from the Samajwadi Party so far.
