Amritsar: Charanjit Singh Channi will be the Congress' CM candidate in the Punjab assembly elections. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi announced his name on Sunday. During this time, Rahul Gandhi had called Channi 'son of the poor'. Rahul said that Channi is the son of a poor household, understands poverty and comes out of poverty. But is Channi really poor? In the affidavit filed for the assembly elections, Channi has stated assets worth Rs 9.45 crore in his possession. However, Channi's wealth has decreased in 2022 compared to 2017. In 2017, Channi had assets worth Rs 14.51 crore.

According to CM Channi's affidavit, he has movable assets worth Rs 2.62 crore. There is immovable property of more than Rs 6.82 crore. Channi has Rs 1.50 lakh in cash and his wife Dr Kamaljit Kaur has Rs 50,000 in cash. Channi has Rs 78.49 lakh in his bank account and Rs 12.76 lakh in his wife's bank accounts. Apart from this, Channi owns a Toyota Fortuner car worth Rs 32.57 lakh, which he bought in 2018. His wife's name also has cars. Of these, one car is priced at Rs 15.78 lakh, while the other is worth Rs 30.21 lakh.

Along with this, Channi has jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh and his wife has jewellery worth Rs 54 lakh. Channi has also invested Rs 26.67 lakh in a petrol pump. Channi also owns several bungalows in addition to agricultural and non-agricultural land. Channi has stated in his affidavit that he has a loan of Rs 63.29 lakh and his wife has a loan of Rs 25.06 lakh.
