THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress-led Opposition voiced loud protests, and the Kerala Assembly was adjourned shortly after it commen d on Monday, March 20, till 11 am.

Due to the widespread demonstrations, Kerala Speaker AN Shamsheer also cancelled the question and answer session. Notably, the Business Advisory committee is to be held at 11 am. The state assembly was to reconvene today after being suspended earlier on March 17 as a result of opposition leader protests.

As the Speaker forbade Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan from bringing up the cases against UDF legislators for non-bailable offences in connection with the alleged assault on House marshals during a commotion outside the Speaker's office on Wednesday, a protest broke out.

The Leader of the Opposition Satheesan's microphone was turned off during the Assembly's Question and Answer session by Speaker Shamsheer.

The opposition protested and trooped into the Well of the Assemly forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for the day in the session that lasted for 10 minutes. Congress leader VD Satheesan also alleged that Kerala Assembly Speaker is denying them from speaking in the house.

The opposition leaders in Kerala protested earlier on March 15 outside the office of Speaker A N Shamseer inside the Assembly building, claiming that he was standing up for their rights in the House.

Earlier on March 16 also, the Speaker had called for an all-party meeting of the ruling and opposition fronts, when the meeting led to a war of words between CM Pinarayi Vijayan and the opposition leader and it failed to yield any results.
