Protests intensified in the North East regarding CAB, traffic jam and demonstrations in many areas

Agartala: Life in the Northeast has been severely affected on Tuesday due to the ongoing bandh and agitation in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). The bandh has been organized by local tribal parties and youth organizations including North East Students Organization (NESO). The bill has already been passed in Lok Sabha through division. Discussion on the bill started a day earlier on Monday from 4 pm and after much debate till 12.06 pm on Monday, 311 votes were cast in favor of the bill and 80 votes were opposed to the bill.

Road and rail traffic in Tripura has been severely affected and thousands of passengers are stranded. Pro-bandh activists did not allow vehicles and vehicles to go ahead. Police spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty said that no major untoward incident of any kind was reported in the areas of Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The area, which occupies two-thirds of 10,491 square kilometers, is home to more than 1.2 million people, mostly tribals.

Chakraborty told the media that, "Local tribal parties in the TTAADC area have called for a bandh where  activists staged a road blockade. Many protests and road jams were held at many prominent places in Tripura. The protesters were taken in custody. "
