HYDERABAD: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Saturday told a press conference that the government should distribute land to every poor family belonging to SC, ST, OBC and General categories. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has asked all the landless families in the villages to provide 5 acres of land.

If the government land is not available, the government will economically develop their families and reduce poverty, so that the land should be purchased and given to the landless.

The Union Minister asked the Chief Minister to implement reservation in promotions. He said his ministry was studying the classification of OBCs and a decision would be taken soon. He also wanted reservation for the economically weak Reddy community.

The Minister asked the farmers to stop their agitation. "The farmers' movement has been going on for a long time. We are sympathetic to them and explain to them that these laws are not against them. We are ready to amend the laws," he said.
