Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Sami and Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell fired Islamabad United to victory against Lahore Qalandars in Super Over after a Pakistan Super League match had ended in a tie in Sharjah on Friday. Put in to bat, Islamabad United were restricted to small total of 121 runs for loss of 9 wickets, thanks to superlative bowling performances by leg-spinner Yasir Shah (3/20) and Sohail Khan (2/23).

However, Lahore Qalandars made a disastrous start losing Umar Akmal (4) and Fakar Zaman (0) in the first over bowled by Samit Patel (3/17). Former Kiwis skipper Brendon McCullum and Agha Salman (48) then steady the ship with Salman playing an aggressor in the duo's 73-run stand which brought the Lahore's chase back on track. But Salman fell in the 12th over with scores reading 77/3 in 11.2 overs and that opened the restraint. None of the other batsmen could manage even a double digit figures. McCullum was their last hope keeping a price tag on his wicket.

With 7 required of the last six balls and two wickets in hand, Lahore looked firm favourites to take the match. Mohammad Sami bowled a dot first ball before McCullum (34) was run out stealing a single on the second ball. Salman Irshad hit a six on the third ball to level the scores before mistiming a pull to square leg. Lahore was all out for 121 and match went into the Super Over. Batting first, Lahore scored 15 in the Super Over with sixes hit by McCullum and Akmal. The task of chasing the target was handed to Russell and Asif Ali.
