The results of the elections to 30 assembly seats in Puducherry are due today. The counting of votes has begun. You all must know that the Union Territory of Puducherry has a total of 33 assembly seats. In fact, in three of these seats, the nominated members, while in the other 30 seats, the candidate reaches the Assembly after the elections by the people. Five out of 30 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Caste candidate.
The Congress is contesting here along with the Left parties and the DMK. On the other hand, there is Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the fray, which is challenging the Congress along with All India NR Congress, AIADMK, and other parties. Initially all India NR in 3 seats in Puducherry assembly elections. Congress, BJP in 2 seats, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in one seat, and independent candidates in one seat were leading. At the same time, it has been reported that now, as per official trends for 12 seats in Puducherry, NR Congress is leading in 6 seats, BJP on 3, DMK on 1, and Congress on 1.
You must be aware that President's rule was imposed in Puducherry last month after the fall of the Congress-led government. His government was reduced to a minority after several party MLAs and a DMK MLA resigned here. The Lieutenant Governor recommended the Union Cabinet to dissolve the Union Territory Assembly and the Cabinet approved it as the claim to form the government could not be staked in the House after the Chief Minister resigned.
