CHANDIGARH: Amit Rattan Kotfatta, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA representing Bathinda Rural in Punjab, has been detained by the Vigilance Bureau in connection with a bribery case, a senior official announced on February 23, 2023.
The congressman was detained a few days after the Punjab Vigilance Directorate detained his accused close aide Rashim Garg in connection with the same issue.
Amit Rattan Kotfatta has been arrested, a top official of the bureau informed. The official claimed that the MLA was taken into custody after being taken from Rajpura on February 22 in the evening.
The official stated that he will appear in court on Thursday to request his remand.
Rashim Garg was detained on February 16 as a result of a complaint made by the husband of a Ghuda village chief in Bathinda. He said that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh in exchange for releasing a Rs. 25 lakh government grant.
A squad from the Vigilance Office in Bathinda found Garg in possession of Rs. 4 lakh in cash.
Kotfatta had previously denied any connection to Garg. He had charged that the opposition groups were attempting to discredit Punjab's Aam Aadmi Party government.
Kotfatta has denied any connection to Garg on February 16. Yet, Kumar consistently said in the FIR filed that day that he had seen Garg and the Legislator together. Even more, Kumar published a two-minute audio discussion that he claimed occurred between him, the MLA, and Garg in which money was demanded of him.
