Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is likely to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Tuesday, August 10. According to details, the two leaders may talk about a cabinet reshuffle in Punjab.

Earlier on July 31, Amarinder Singh had clarified that his Cabinet was not likely to be reformulated. The meeting comes weeks after the Congress leadership elevated Navjot Singh Sidhu as the chief of Congress' Punjab state unit.

The next Assembly elections are due in Punjab in February 2022 and currently, the cabinet berth vacated by Sidhu is available. While there has been discussions of balancing the representation to various communities, particularly dalit MLAs, in the cabinet, whether Amarinder would want to replace ministers who did not stand by him during the recent internal turmoil in the state unit has been a point of assumption. It will be closely monitored if ministers who openly backed Sidhu will continue to be in the cabinet. At the same time, at least four ministers have faced allegations of misusing their positions by the opposition parties in recent months.
