Amritsar: A part of the ongoing political crisis in the Punjab Congress is finally over. In fact, Congress leader Amarinder Singh has finally resigned as chief minister amid the day-long turmoil. He met state governor Banwari Lal Purohit and submitted his resignation. There has been speculation since morning that Captain Amarinder may resign before the Congress Legislature Party meeting.

All the ministers of the Amarinder cabinet have also resigned after the resignation of the CM. With this, the entire Cabinet will now be re-created with a new CM in Punjab. The Congress Legislature Party is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. today to elect a new CM. Sunil Jakhar, on the other hand, is leading as the new CM. The stir in Punjab congress Bhawan has intensified.

Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat and two central observers Ajay Maken and Harish Rai Chadhairi have reached Chandigarh. Congress Working President Sonia Gandhi had demanded resignation from him in the morning. Meanwhile, several leaders, including Assembly Speaker Rana KP Singh, his senior cabinet minister Brahma Mohindera had arrived to meet Captain Amarinder Singh.
