Amritsar: There are reports of attempts to convert an ancient gurdwara into a mosque in Lahore, Pakistan. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has condemned this, expressing strong objection. Amarinder Singh wrote in a tweet, 'I strongly condemn the efforts to convert the holy Shri Shaheedi Gurdwara in Lahore into a mosque. This place is the martyr's place of Bhai Taru Singh Ji.'

He further wrote, 'I urge Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to keep this concern of Punjab strictly before Pakistan and ask him to ensure the safety of Sikh religious places.' It is noteworthy that Gurdwara Shaheedi place is a historical site, where Bhai Taru Singh made the supreme sacrifice in 1745. This gurudwara is located in the Naulakha market of Lahore of Punjab province under Pakistan. People of the Sikh community have great reverence for this gurudwara and consider it a holy place.

However, it is being claimed by Pakistan that this mosque is part of Shaheed Ganj. After reports of converting this gurudwara into a mosque, India has lodged an objection with the Pakistan High Commission. Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava has said, 'This incident is a matter of grave concern for India. Demand for justice is arising for the minority Sikh community of Pakistan.'
