Amritsar: Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh has expressed his displeasure over the violence that took place during the farmers' demonstration in the country's capital region on the occasion of Republic Day. Amarinder Singh has said that what happened on the occasion of Republic Day is an insult to the farmers. He said that in the form of sticks in the hands, farmers rode on tractors with sticks, sabers and tricolours, broke barricades at various places and entered the capital and laid siege to Red Fort. This has embarrassed the country. He said that this has also weakened the peasant movement.
Captain Amarinder Singh further said that the Red Fort of India is a symbol of independent India and that after the independence of the country thousands of people have sacrificed their lives to see the national flag on this historic fort. Condemning this act, Amarinder has said that Mahatma Gandhi has given the freedom to this country with non-violence. He said that who are the people who committed the violence, the Central Government has requested to apprehend the perpetrator behind it. They have also said that the government should not disturb the peasant leaders without any reason and find out which party were the people who created a ruckus on the Red Fort.
During the tractor parade organized by the farmers on 26 January, there was fierce violence, in which about 300 policemen were injured. The miscreants also hoisted their flag by removing the tricolour from the Red Fort. Since then, farmers leaders have been condemned all around.
