Chandigarh: Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has rejected the order by the Fazilka Deputy Commissioner's Office on Saturday night for the dress fixation of his employees. On Friday, the Deputy Commissioner's Office had warned its employees of disciplinary action for not complying with the directive.

CM Singh rejected the order saying that it is not a good option to enforce dress code in the government office. The Chief Minister said that some more options could be explored to maintain the discipline of the office. He said, the Punjab government does not have a dress code for its employees and therefore it would not be logical to expect the personnel of a district office to follow the dress code.

Fazilka Deputy Commissioner Manpreet Singh had also banned the wearing of T-shirts of male personnel during office hours. The Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to send the request of the Employees Union to the State Government for further action. This was disclosed by an official spokesperson. An order issued on Friday from the Deputy Commissioner's Office said, "The cognizance of the Deputy Commissioner of Fazilka has come to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner of Fazilka that the male employees come to the office in T-shirts and the women employees come to the office without a scarf." ''

The order said, "Instructions are being given that no male personnel should come to the office wearing T-shirts and no female personnel should come to the office without a scarf." The rule was scheduled to come into force from July 28.
