Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh once again told that there is no question of withdrawing free electricity to farmers in the state. He said that the free power will continue as long as he is leading the government.

The Chief Minister said that although the report of the group of experts headed by Montek Singh Ahluwalia is preliminary, his government will not accept the recommendation of any experts to withdraw free power. Responding to media reports, CM said, W"I am here, free electricity for tubewells will continue. '' It is noteworthy that the Chief Minister has constituted a group of experts under the leadership of Montek Singh Ahluwalia to formulate a strategy for the economic progress of Punjab after Covid. During the discussion through video conferencing, Montek Singh Ahluwalia also clarified that the reports of experts are not anti-farmer.

What has been reported in the media reports is misleading. The public has suggested that crop diversity is the only hope for the agricultural development of Punjab. Ahluwalia said that the group of experts had recommended that farmers should be taken out of the paddy cycle. Concessions should be made because even though high water consumption crops are economically beneficial for farmers, it is also huge environmental losses. Agricultural diversification means reducing paddy fields and marketing. Modernization indicates the key role of the private sector.
