New Delhi: The violence, that blown up during a farmers' agitation in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, has sparked extensive outrage. Several Congress leaders along with general secretary Priyanka Gandhi reached the violence-hit district's border on Monday  to meet the victims after the dramatic escalation of their 10-month long agitation over controversial new laws claimed the lives of four farmers.

Meanwhile, Samyukt Kisan Morcha has called upon farmers` organisations across the country to protest at District Collector`s and District Magistrate`s offices in all districts across the country today, between 10 am and 1 pm, over the death of the farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri incident in Uttar Pradesh.

"Expressing solidarity with bereaved families of farmers, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Monday said that he would visit Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, where 8 people, including 4 farmers, died yesterday. He said,  I am leaving for Lakhimpur Kheri to be with my brothers and sisters in this hour of grief. I have also sought permission from the UP government to allow landing and taking off of chopper at the site," Channi tweeted. The Punjab government wrote to the Uttar Pradesh government seeking permission for landing and taking off of the Chief Minister's chopper.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed grief over the incident and described it as "unfortunate". CM Yogi Adityanath said that "action will be taken against whoever is responsible."
