New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced the dates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. In Punjab, polling will be held in one phase only. The notification for assembly elections will be issued on January 21. The last date for nomination has been fixed as 28th January. Candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations by January 31 and polling will be held on February 14.

Counting of votes will be held on March 10, this time the candidates will be able to spend a maximum of Rs 40 lakh. Announcing the dates for the upcoming assembly elections in five states, the Election Commission said that it is very challenging to hold elections amidst coronavirus but it is our duty. Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra said that the elections will be held as per corona rules.

In this election, senior citizens above the age of 80 years, persons with disabilities and persons infected with coronavirus can cast their votes through postal ballot. Both doses of vaccine as well as booster dose will be given to the employees on election duty. The Commission said that no physical rally will be held during this period. Parties can campaign in digital and virtual ways. Only 5 people will be allowed during the door-to-door campaign. The Election Commission will give further directions after reviewing the status of coronavirus after January 15.
