New Delhi: Putting an end to speculation about his political future, former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has announced that he will form a new party. His party is likely to form an alliance with a faction of Akalis and other smaller parties besides the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His new party will reach out to farmers for the proposed elections in 2022. At the same time, the Captain also pointed out that the 'Kisan Andolan' which has been going on for over a year could move towards an early solution.

Captain Amarinder Singh's intervention will resolve the issue after talks between the government and farmers. Whether his own new party will make the BJP a partner will depend on what the BJP's attitude towards agricultural laws remains. He said his party may form an alliance with Dhindsa and Brahmapura factions of Shiromani Akali Dal. Asked about his reluctance to ally with the BJP, Amarinder said he has always stood for Punjab. He said he is looking to contest elections and his focus will be on forming a government. Captain Amarinder Singh had already announced that he would quit the Congress. The party high command took his resignation as CM and elected Charanjit Singh Channi for the role.

Amarinder Singh was resigned following the revolt of Congress state unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu in Punjab. He then met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. There was speculation that he would join the BJP after that, but he ruled out such possibilities. The Captain has now said that he does not consider the BJP as a communal or anti-Muslim party.
