Chandigarh: Hearing the petition filed in the High Court against the reserve of Jhajjar assembly seat of Haryana, the court has ordered to keep this seat reserved for the time being. On the instructions of the court, the Chief Election Officer of Haryana appeared in the court. While giving information about the method adopted for reserving any seat, he said that where, which seat has been reserved and on which basis. In this case, the Election Commission also presented caste records related to Jhajjar assembly seat in the High Court.

Advocate Chetan Mittal, who appeared for the court on behalf of the Chief Electoral Officer, said that keeping in mind the 2001 census, seats have been reserved in Haryana. Any seat is reserved not on the assembly level but on the basis of the district. In the district where there will be more people belonging to the reserved caste, the seat is reserved there. Accordingly, 17 seats have been reserved.

The court has directed the Chief Electoral Officer to present the affidavit regarding the method being adopted in the court within 1 month. Let us tell you that Brijendra, who hails from Jhajjar, has filed a petition in the High Court stating that in 1976, Jhajjar Assembly seat was reserved, while it has the highest number of Jats and Yadavs, hence removing this Legislative Assembly constituency from the Reserve category is normal. Category assembly seats should be made.
