Chandigarh: Social media are also groups of users, especially on WhatsApp, in which people share many types of content. If you are associated with any of these groups, in which pornographic material is posted or forwarded, then you may have to be jailed. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has said this in one of its decisions. The court has given important orders to control pornography on social media. The court has said that all the users in the group who disseminate pornographic material get involved in the crime.
The court said this while hearing the bail plea of Jaswinder Singh, accused in the sexual harassment case of a minor girl. Justice Suvir Sehgal in his judgment held that the presence of the petitioner in the group uploading pornographic videos of the victim proves his involvement in the crime. An FIR has been lodged at the victim's statement at Ropar police station. In which she has alleged that when she went to a woman's house to study coaching, she was forced to drink alcohol and cigarettes there and take intoxicating injections. Not only this, the woman made a pornographic video of her and started blackmailing her asking for money and jewelry.
The FIR has also alleged that the accused woman posted a video of the minor on social media group, which also included Jaswinder Singh. In this case, the police had registered a case under sections 354 (breach of decorum) and 354-A (breach of modesty and coercion). Later, two other sections 384 (forcible recovery) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) were also added to this FIR. While refusing to grant anticipatory bail to Jaswidar Singh, Justice Suvir Sehgal said that the behavior of the accused has caused mental stress for a long time. The accused used to threaten the victim, which scared her so much that she did not even reveal her suffering to the parents for three years. The petitioner is a sex offender. The girl's life is ruined because of her.
