Punjab Health Minister announces "Samples sent by private hospitals and labs will be checked for free"

In view of the decision to conduct large scale screening for timely detection of coronavirus patients, the Punjab government has decided to get free RT-PCR testing of samples of Covid-19 sent by listed hospitals, clinics and laboratories. This information was given by Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu.

In his statement, the minister said that instructions have been issued to civil surgeons to list private hospitals, clinics and labs that are willing to be listed voluntarily for providing a free testing facility for samples. He said that private hospitals, clinics and laboratories should have a separate place for suspected patients of Covid-19, where samples will be taken and it will be ensured that the person taking the sample will be wearing full personal protective equipment.

Sidhu said that private hospitals and clinics taking advantage of this facility will not charge more than Rs 1000 from patients for collecting samples. He said that private hospitals would select patients according to the criteria of the clinics ICMR, under which international or domestic travellers with symptoms, lab-confirmed Covid-19 patient contacts, persons coming from container zones/hotspots, including Symptoms have been found, high-risk contact of a Covid-19 patient with no symptoms, non-symptomatic / symptomatic frontline staff and migrant or returning individuals.
