Amritsar: A rocket launcher attacked the Sarhali Kalan police station in Punjab's Tarn Taran district on Saturday. This is the sixth attack on the Indian Army and the state police in the last 13 months in Punjab. Clues to this can be found from the attack in Mohali on May 9. The police have not yet ruled out a terror angle in it, but the masterminds of all the attacks that took place earlier were gangsters and smugglers.

DGP Gaurav Yadav says that this is a clear indication that Pakistan has made a strategy to inflict thousands of wounds on India. It is being told that the military-grade weapons used to carry out the attack in Tarn Taran were smuggled through Pakistan through drones. The police have registered a case against unidentified persons under the UAPA. Police have detained seven suspects for questioning and found rockets and rocket launchers, which according to the police are military-grade hardware, from the spot. They were probably smuggled through Pakistan. Intelligence agencies issued an alert on October 15 last year. It had said that terrorists could target police and other establishments, but this alert was ignored by the Punjab Police and the state government.

The officials had also asked all police stations to deploy mounted light machine guns outside the stations in addition to deploying permanent guards at the entry gates. Police stations were also instructed to set up check posts at the entrances, but no such arrangement was made in Sarhali. CCTV cameras were also not working here.
