Punjab: Government in action mode after 86 deaths, raids on 100 bases, 25 arrested

Amritsar: The number of people who died due to drinking poisonous liquor in Punjab has increased to 86. Now action has started in this matter. The police has raided around 100 fake liquor bars in 3 districts and have arrested 25 people so far. Meanwhile, taking a big action, the Punjab government has suspended Madhur Bhatia, the officer of Excise Department of Tarn Taran, on charges of negligence in his duty. So far, 7 officers and 6 policemen of the Excise Department have been suspended.

In this case, Taran Taran's SSP has already suspended 2 station in-charge and 1 DSP. The police are now investigating what these officers have with the drug dealers? The Punjab government has announced financial assistance of 2-2 lakh to the families of the deceased. 3 districts of Punjab were affected due to drinking poisonous liquor, in which the maximum deaths were recorded from Taran Taran district and 63 people died here. While 12 people died in Amritsar and 9 in Gurdaspur's Batala.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has tweeted and mourned the incident. He said that I am saddened by the loss of life and property in Punjab due to illicit liquor. To curb such mafias, the state government needs to take immediate steps. The matter should be immediately handed over to the CBI as there has been no redressal of the local police for illegal liquor cases for the past few months.
