Amritsar: Two groups of students fought each other at a college in Sangrur, Punjab, after India suffered a crushing defeat from Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. This incident is of the private engineering college of Sangrur. It is alleged that a group of Kashmiri students raised slogans in support of Pakistan after India's defeat. This angered a group of students from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and the two groups came face to face.
Dr Tanuja Srivastava, Director, Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology confirmed the incident and said that the issue has been resolved. She further said that the students raised slogans of Zindabad in support of the Pakistan team. She explained that both factions were watching the encounter on their laptops. The slogans were followed by clashes between the two groups. She said later there was a quarrel between the two groups in the hostel as well. The clash lasted about 30 minutes. No one was hurt during the fight. A video of the incident is also going viral on social media but this video is not of their engineering college.
Tanuja Srivastava said the hostel warden rushed to the spot in view of the dispute between the two groups and an attempt was made to pacify the two groups and the incident was reported to the police. Sangrur DSP Jatinder Singh, who is investigating the case, says no complaint has been received so far. The issue was settled among themselves, so the case has not been registered.
