The Congress government of Punjab fulfilled the promise made in the election announcement letter and launched the much-awaited smartphone scheme on Wednesday and distributed mobile sets among some students of 12th standard studying in government schools. The launch of this scheme, after more than three years after the formation of the Congress government in Punjab, is the main election promise. Giving smartphones to the youth of the state during the 2017 assembly elections in Punjab was a major election promise.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh started the 'Punjab Smart Connect Scheme' through video conference here. He gave a smartphone to six students of class 12th in a symbolic way. After this, various ministers, MLAs and others distributed smartphones at 26 places across the state.

After the commencement of this scheme, every ministers in different districts personally distributed more than 20 phones after students to different places. Under this scheme, 1,74,015 students of 12th standard studying in government schools will be benefited in the first phase. The first phase of the scheme will be completed by November this year.
