Chandigarh:  Sidhu Moose Wala, a Punjabi singing youth icon, joined the Congress party on Friday,  months before the state's Assembly elections.

Sidhu Moose Wala said in the presence of Punjab Chairman Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state party chief Navjot Singh Sidhu that the objective was to "service the Punjabis." He is expected to acquire a party ticket to run from Sardulgarh or Mansa, according to sources.

Sidhu Moose Wala began his career by composing the lyrics for Ninja's song "License" and then singing in a duet called "G Wagon."

With Navjot Singh Sidhu's ascension to state party chief and previous CM Captain Amarinder Singh's way out, the Congress party has been in upheaval for some time. While Singh resigned from the Congress after Charanjit Singh Channi was appointed chief minister and is expected to run in the elections in coalition with the BJP, allegations of a breach between Channi and Navjot Sidhu have been making news for several weeks.
