Two-time Olympic medalist and Indian badminton star PV Sindhu has reached the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters. In men's singles, Kidambi Srikanth reached the quarterfinals. Sindhu has been successful in reaching the last four rounds of a tournament for the first time this year. PV defeated Mia Blichfeld of Denmark 21-14, 21-17.

Srikanth also lost by scores of 18-21 and 15-21 to top seed Kenta Nishimoto of Japan. This is his third defeat against this Japanese player. The second-ranked 27-year-old Sindhu made a comeback this year after a long injury layoff but could not reach the second round of the opening tournaments this year.

The former world champion also won the first game with complete dominance. She was trailing in the second game but came back from 6-12 to win the match in straight games. Sindhu will face unseeded Yeo Jia Min of Singapore in the semi-finals.
