India’s star badminton player and double Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu is set to marry Hyderabad-based Venkata Datta Sai on December 22. The wedding will take place in Udaipur, with pre-wedding celebrations starting on December 20.
Sindhu’s father, P.V. Ramana, shared that the two families have known each other for some time, but the marriage was finalized only about a month ago. "This was the only available time as her schedule will get busy from January," he said.
The celebrations will culminate with a grand reception in Hyderabad on December 24. Sindhu is expected to resume her rigorous training soon after, as the upcoming season is crucial for her career.

A Recent Landmark:
P.V. Sindhu recently broke her two-year title drought on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour by clinching the Syed Modi India International badminton tournament in Lucknow. In an intense final lasting 47 minutes, Sindhu defeated China’s Wu Luo Yu in straight games, with scores of 21-14, 21-16.
This marks Sindhu’s first BWF World Tour title since her Singapore Open victory in July 2022, a BWF Super 500 event. The Syed Modi India International, categorized as a BWF Super 300 tournament, added another feather to her cap. Despite reaching the finals of the Spain Masters and Malaysia Masters in 2023 and 2024, Sindhu narrowly missed securing titles in those tournaments.
Sindhu’s career is studded with remarkable achievements, including five medals at the BWF World Championships. She shares this distinction with China’s Zhang Ning, making them the only two women to achieve such a milestone. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Sindhu created history by becoming the first Indian badminton player to reach the Olympic final, where she secured a silver medal after a gripping match against Spain’s Carolina Marin.
