Bhopal: A Public Works Department (PWD) engineer in Madhya Pradesh's capital Bhopal has been caught red-handed by the Lokayukta while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000. The action was taken by a team of Lokayukta Bhopal. The engineer had demanded Rs 1 lakh as security fund and 6 per cent of the amount paid for the tender.   

Giving details of the case, the Bhopal Lokayukta police said, the complaint was lodged by the complainant Govind Singh Chauhan. Govind Singh Chauhan had alleged that he had wanted to withdraw an FD as a security fund of Rs 75 lakh for the pole shifting tender. He also asked for payment. In return, THE PWD's executive engineer, S.C. Verma, was demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh, 6 per cent of the amount.  

After verifying the same complaint, on June 14, the Lokayukta police caught Verma red-handed at Jawahar Chowk, the office outside the PWD office, taking Rs 40,000 as the first instalment of a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The action of Lokayukta police is going on. The trap team comprises deputy superintendent of police Dr. Salil Sharma, inspectors Manoj Patwa and Mayuri Gaur, guards Avadh Watvi, Brij Bihari Pandey, Hemendrapal.
