Quake-hit Afghanistan receives relief from India

NEW DELHI: The Central government  has sent 27 tonnes of emergency relief aid to earthquake-ravaged Afghanistan, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

"In the wake  of the tragic earthquake that struck Afghanistan on June 22, 2022, causing massive destruction and the loss of precious lives, the Government of India has dispatched 27 tonnes of emergency relief assistance in two flights for the people of Afghanistan," a MEA statement said.

Essential items such as family ridge tents, sleeping bags, blankets, sleeping mats, and so on are included in the relief assistance to Afghanistan. According to the report, the relief shipment will be delivered to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) in Kabul.

"As always, India stands in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan, with whom we share centuries of ties, and remains firmly committed to providing immediate relief assistance to the Afghan people," said the ministry.

India has also sent a technical team to the Indian Embassy in Kabul. On Thursday, an Indian technical team arrived in Kabul. "In order to closely monitor and coordinate the efforts of various stakeholders for the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance, and in continuation of our engagement with the Afghan people," the MEA said on Thursday.
