New Delhi: India's independence will mark 74 years on August 15. Preparations are in full swing for Independence Day across the country and tight security arrangements are being made at the Red Fort. Before celebrating Independence Day, we should never forget that the great heroes of India have sacrificed their blood for this freedom. Just before August 15 comes another historic date that played an important role in India's independence, today is the same historic day. Yes, 08 August 1942 was the date when the 'Quit India Movement' against the British started to give freedom to the country. This campaign proved to be a milestone in the Indian freedom struggle and five years later the British had to return home from India on the contrary.

OneIndia Hindi is celebrating independence day a special week from today till 15th August in which we will introduce you to such important events related to India's independence throughout the week. Today, we are going to tell you what the Quit India Movement was and when, why, and how it was started. The Quit India Movement was launched on August 8, 1942, during World War II, with the aim of liberating Mother India from British slavery. The movement was launched by Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. Bapu started the agitation with the Mumbai session of the All India Congress Committee. On this occasion, Mahatma Gandhi had given the slogan 'Do or Die' to the country from the historic Gualia Tank Ground (now August Kranti Maidan).

Although the freedom struggle started in India in 1857, the protests started becoming non-violent and peaceful after Gandhiji's arrival in this battle. In the meantime, Mahatma Gandhi started a variety of movements that shook British rule Britain. The Quit India Movement is considered to be the last nail to be hit on the coffin of the British for the freedom struggle. After the failure of the Cripps Mission during World War II, Mahatma Gandhi decided to launch another major movement called the 'Quit India Movement.' Lakhs of people from all over India participated in this movement.
