NEW DELHI: Following the Gujarat High Court's recent decision to reject the stay on former Congress president Rahul Gandhi's conviction in a defamation case related to his 'Modi surname' remark, the Congress party has expressed its respect for the court's judgment and intends to approach the Supreme Court.

During a media interaction at the party's headquarters, Congress treasurer Pawan Bansal stated, "While we hold the court in high regard, we respectfully disagree with the verdict, as we believe it to be unjust."

Simultaneously, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter and shared, "We have taken note of the Gujarat High Court's ruling on Rahul Gandhi's disqualification. We are currently examining the judge's rationale, and Dr. Abhishek Singhvi will provide a comprehensive briefing to the media at 3 pm. This verdict only strengthens our determination to pursue the matter further."

Indian Youth Congress chief Srinivas BV, in conversation with IANS, affirmed, "The truth may face obstacles, but it can never be defeated. We maintain our faith in the Supreme Court, as everyone is aware of the reasons behind this conviction. Rahul Gandhi raised concerns about the Adani Group and Rs 20,000 crore linked to shell companies. We have complete trust in the Supreme Court."

These statements from Congress leaders emerged subsequent to the Gujarat High Court's decision to uphold the Sessions Court's ruling, denying a stay on Rahul Gandhi's conviction in the defamation case regarding his 'Modi surname' remark.

A large gathering of Congress supporters congregated at the party's headquarters, voicing slogans against the BJP government at the Centre. Additional security measures were implemented at the Congress headquarters to ensure safety and order.
