The auto industry expressed grief and grieved the death of former Bajaj Group Chairman Rahul Bajaj, who died on Saturday at the age of 83 in Pune. Top industry figures paid tribute to the creator of the legendary 'Hamara Bajaj' when he passed away due to failing health. Rajiv and Sanjiv Bajaj, as well as Sunaina Kejriwal, his two sons, survive him.

"Rahul Bajaj was a great industrialist who built an empire on sound principles and left a legacy that makes India proud with presence in several countries," Maruti Suzuki India CEO and SIAM President Kenichi Ayukawa said, expressing condolences on behalf of the automotive industry on Bajaj's untimely death.

Bajaj, made a significant contribution to the vehicle industry in 1976-77. "Like his visionary entrepreneurship, the strength of his personality was in his simplicity, accessibility, straightforward and honest communication," he continued.

The death of Bajaj, according to President of the Federation of Automotive Dealers' Association Vinkesh Gulati, was an irreparable loss for the industry veteran. "Rahul ji made Bajaj a shining light in India's economic narrative as the country began to open up its economy. FADA honoured Bajaj with the 'Life Time Achievement Award' in 2012, recognising him as a true 'buland bharat ki buland tasveer.' "Gulati said.

Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company, described Bajaj as a pioneer in the auto industry, saying that he "created a culture of quality and technology, providing a mix of high integrity in business and principled position." ".. "Rahul played a vital role in industry organisations throughout the world including the World Economic Forum and the CII and was extremely highly respected," Srinivasan continued."
