New Delhi: A party delegation led by former Congress National President Rahul Gandhi will meet President Ram Nath Kovind today on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case and submit a memorandum to him on the incident. Rahul Gandhi will be accompanied by the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leaders AK Antony, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and organisation general secretary KC Venugopal.

According to information received from Congress sources, the party delegation will meet the President at 11.30 am on Wednesday. The Congress had written to the President on October 10 seeking an appointment with the President for a 7-member delegation of the party. This was followed by the president's approval on Tuesday. Congress is demanding the dismissal of the Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni over the Lakhimpur violence.

Not only that, the Congress is constantly attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Uttar Pradesh government over the violent incident. Party leaders are also questioning PM Narendra Modi's silence on the issue. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi, who visited Tikunia village in Lakhimpur Kheri and met the victims' families, also hit out at PM Modi, who had gone to Lucknow to inaugurate development projects. Congress leaders said PM Modi does not have time to go to Lakhimpur Kheri.
