New Delhi: The issue of 'liquor' and 'khadi' once again came up at a meeting of state chiefs organized by Congress working president Sonia Gandhi. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who questioned it in 2007, again raised the same issue in a meeting held on Tuesday. In fact, the rules of the membership drive, which is set to be launched by Congress, talk about not consuming alcohol. It is reported that many veteran leaders were shocked by the discussion that took place during the meeting.

According to media reports, Rahul asked in the meeting, 'Who drinks here?' The question made many members jump and the matter came to a halt on Navjot Singh Sidhu. On this, he said, 'Most people in my state drink.' However, during this time he did not mention any particular name. Avoiding alcohol and wearing khadi is a decades-old rule of the Congress party. Now it is necessary to amend the membership rules to deal with this situation, but it could not be changed immediately.

Only the working committee can amend the rules in the party. However, the rule of not drinking alcohol has been going on since Mahatma Gandhi's time. Rahul Gandhi had questioned the relevance and feasibility of the rule in the Congress Working Committee in 2017.
