NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, left the Enforcement Directorate headquarters on Monday after being questioned for about three hours in connection with the National Herald case.

According to sources, Gandhi was probed about his holdings and bank accounts both inside and outside the country during the first round of interrogation. "He was questioned about his foreign holdings," sources said.

Three top officials of the financial investigation agency questioned the former Congress president, according to an official. "There were two Assistant Directors and one Deputy Director on the team," the official said.

Gandhi arrived at the ED office, Paryavaran Bhavan on APJ Abdul Kalam Road, under significant police presence, which had been put in place to prevent party workers from staging a rally from Congress headquarters to the ED office. Rahul was accompanied on the trip by his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, but she left minutes after they arrived at the ED headquarters.

In addition to Rahul, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul's mother and interim Congress president, has been summoned in the same case. On June 23, she will appear before the financial investigation agency.

Meanwhile, some members of the Congress party have been imprisoned after protesting Rahul Gandhi's grilling by the Enforcement Directorate.
