NEW DELHI: Congress National President Rahul Gandhi was sworn in as Lok Sabha member for the fourth consecutive term on Monday, but after taking the oath, he forgot to sign the Parliament register. Rahul Gandhi signed after being reminded by officials and several MPs. Rahul has become an MP from Wayanad in Kerala. He had also contested from his family's traditional stronghold Amethi Lok Sabha seat, but lost the election by more than 55,000 votes to Union Minister Smriti Irani.

Rahul was sworn in on Monday afternoon and then proceeded to his seat. He was then reminded of the necessary signature, after which he signed the register. Earlier in the day, members of the ruling party found him non-existent and asked about him. Immediately after questioning his non-existence, Gandhi wrote on Twitter, "My fourth term as a Lok Sabha member begins today. Representing the Wayanad Parliamentary constituency of Kerala, I am starting my new innings with this afternoon swearing-in. I will have genuine faith and loyalty to the Constitution of India."

The newly elected 542 MPs have been sworn in for the first two days of the budget session. The process was initiated by President Ram Nath Kovind with the swearing-in of Proteam Speaker Virendra Kumar. After that, Virender Kumar accepted other MPs. The Congress has yet to announce its leader in the House.
