Bangalore: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been granted bail by the 42nd ACMM Court of Bengaluru in a defamation case related to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the 2023 assembly elections. The bail was secured with former Congress MP DK Suresh required to deposit property worth Rs 75 lakh as a deed. The next hearing for the case has been scheduled for July 30, and Rahul Gandhi has signed the bond as required.

The court had summoned Rahul Gandhi to appear in person today. The case stems from an advertisement published by the Congress party in mainstream newspapers during the 2023 assembly elections, which the BJP perceived as defamatory. In response, the court has granted bail to Rahul Gandhi, allowing the legal proceedings to continue.

Rahul Gandhi arrived in Bengaluru for the hearing and plans to meet with Congress MPs and support party leaders who were not successful in the elections. During his visit, he will be accompanied by state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who also serves as the President of the Karnataka Congress.
