New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is leading in the Wayanad and Raebareli Lok Sabha seats as early counting of votes for the 2024 general elections is currently in progress.

As per the Election Commission, Rahul Gandhi is leading in Kerala's Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 8718 votes. In Wayanad, he is contesting against BJP's K Surendran and CPI's Annie Raja.

In Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli Lok Sabha seat, Rahul Gandhi is leading with a margin of 2126 votes. Here, Thakur Prasad Yadav is contesting from the Bahujan Samaj Party.

The Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency went to polls in the second phase on April 26, along with five other constituencies in the state.

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections witnessed an enormous turnout of around 642 million voters across seven phases over a six-week period. The counting of votes began with the postal ballot papers amid tight security arrangements.

In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi secured a significant victory from Wayanad, garnering 706,367 votes. His victory margin was over 4.31 lakh votes, the highest in Kerala during those elections. He secured 64.7% of the vote share, defeating LDF candidate PP Suneer.

Annie Raja, contesting against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad, is the wife of CPI general secretary D Raja and holds the position of general secretary in the party's National Federation of Indian Women.

In addition to the Lok Sabha elections, counting is also underway for the State Legislative Assemblies of 175 constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, 147 constituencies in Odisha, and results of bypolls in 25 Assembly constituencies.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming for a third consecutive term in power, while the opposition under the INDIA bloc is challenging to wrest power from the ruling party.

Most exit polls predicted a return to power for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with several projecting a two-thirds majority for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The Congress party and its allies have dismissed these exit polls as "orchestrated" and "fantasy," asserting that the INDIA bloc will form the next government at the Centre.

The Lok Sabha elections were conducted for 543 seats across seven phases.
