Saffron BJP on Tuesday said Rahul Gandhi's promotion to Congress President Post did not take place on the basis of performance.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy also asserted the Congress could have done the elevation for Rahul Gandhi as a consensus decision or the working committee could have commonly proposed his name as there was no contestant.

"I greet Rahul Gandhi on his promotion as the Congress president which happened without consider his performance," BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

The 47-year-old Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi was officially announced as the Congress president on Monday night.

Verify the elevation of Gandhi scion; Congress' Central Election Authority Chairman Mullapally Ramachandran stated the committee had received 89 nomination papers, all proposing the name of Rahul for the much- demanded post.

Rahul Gandhi had filed his nomination papers for the post of the party President at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters on December 4.

Rahul Gandhi has taken over his mother Sonia Gandhi’s chair, who seized the post for nearly two decades. Rahul will take over the reins of the Congress party on December 16. (NT)
