New Delhi: After the ghastly Pulwama terror attack, Congress President Rahul Gandhi has set up a task force on national security to prepare a vision paper for the country. For this, the Congress president has roped in Lt Gen DS Hooda (retd), the Northern Army Commander during the surgical strike in September 2016, to lead the Task Force and prepare the paper in consultation with a select group of experts.

Hooda had recently said that the RDX used for carrying out the Pulwama against was sourced locally and not from Pakistan. He was the one who oversaw the surgical strikes across terror camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) after the 2016 Uri attack in which 16 soldiers were killed. DS Hooda had earlier said that the surgical strikes had been politicised and overhyped after which  Congress president Rahul Gandhi slammed PM Narendra Modi of using surgical strikes for political gain.

The Congress president had tweeted “Spoken like a true soldier General. India is so proud of you. Mr 36 has absolutely no shame in using our military as a personal asset. He used the surgical strikes for political capital and Rafale deal to increase Anil Ambani's real capital by 30,000 Cr. #SurgicalStrike,”.

The Centre gave the approval for surgical strikes after Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammed carried out a terror attack on an Army camp in Uri in Kashmir on September 18, 2016. As per the Indian Army, several terrorist launch pads were destroyed and many terrorists were killed in the operation.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa had rejected Indian claims of surgical strikes and said that Pakistan armed forces were fully prepared to respond to Indian misadventures.
