New Delhi: Former Congress national president Rahul Gandhi will return to India from Italy on Thursday on a day-to-day visit to Tamil Nadu. In the meantime, he will watch Jallikattu at Avnipuram in Madurai and participate in the Pongal festival. BJP national president JP Nadda will also be in Tamil Nadu today to attend the Pongal festival.

However, Congress MPs from Tamil Nadu have told media that Rahul Gandhi had expressed his desire to see Jallikattu during talks in Parliament. Senior party leaders say Rahul Gandhi's visit will work to give an edge to the Congress party's poll preparedness in the state. In the coming months, Rahul is going to take up the campaign in the state. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be in Madurai for a one-day visit from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency which has faced all the criticisms over his visit to Italy amidst the farmers' agitation. He will be in the city for four hours and will take part in the Pongal festival and watch Jallikattu games.

Manikam Tagore, party MP from Virudhunagar, told media that the Avaniapuram Jallikattu organising committee had sent an invitation to Rahul Gandhi a week ago and was urged to be a part of the function. He said, 'It will be a short tour. Our leader (Rahul Gandhi) will hold discussions with the locals. This is important because Avanipuram village hosts Jallikattu every year."
