According to the news, Rahul Gandhi will inaugurate the state Congress Committee headquarters here and meet party workers. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is visiting Kashmir at a time when the special statehood of this Union Territory has come to an end. All the parties in the Valley are demanding the government to restore statehood before 5th August 2019. In August 2019, the Government abolished Article 370 which gave special provisions to the State, and decided to divide the State into two Union Territories - Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

After article 370 was withdrawn from Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul responded by saying, "The country is made up of people and not from pieces of land." At the same time, he termed the central government's decision as a violation of the Constitution and termed it as a violation of executive powers.
