New Delhi: The government has stepped up its vaccination drive to curb the rapidly spreading corona infection in the country. But now the government is being questioned about the age for vaccination. Several senior leaders, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in the country, have demanded that people above the age of 18 years be included in vaccination. Meanwhile, former Congress National President Rahul Gandhi has also tweeted about vaccination.

Rahul Gandhi wrote in his official tweet today that "It is nonsense to debate on needs and desires. Every citizen of the country has the right to lead a safe life.'' The Central government has said that the goal of fixing age in vaccination is to protect those at the highest risk. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said many people are asking why the government is not starting vaccination for those above the age of 18 years. He said the vaccination campaign is also going on in western countries in a phased manner.

Bhushan further said, "The basic goal is to reduce death through vaccination. The second goal is to protect our health system. If health workers, doctors, nurses, paramedical workers, and other workers fall ill, who will work in hospitals? So the most important goal in any country is to protect the most at-risk people. The goal is to vaccinate those who want to take the vaccine, not to vaccinate them, but to those who need more.''
