NEW DELHI: The issue is getting rife despite Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar's out statement on US President Donald Trump's controversial statement on mediation in the Kashmir issue. Both the Houses of Parliament was rocked by the opposition over the issue. Meanwhile, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has tweeted that if Donald Trump is right, PM Modi has betrayed India's interests.
In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi wrote that "If Donald Trump is telling the truth, PM Modi has acted against the Shimla Accord. Let PM Modi tell the country what talks he had with the US President? Rahul Gandhi also said that the weak Foreign Minister's refusal in this regard will not work. "His statement cannot be believed," said President Donald Trump during his visit to the US by Pakistan PM Imran Khan, adding that PM Modi had requested mediation on the Kashmir issue.
Amid a furor in India following Trump's statement, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a statement in the Upper House on Tuesday that PM Modi never urged President Trump of any kind. However, even after the External Affairs Minister's statement, the matter does not seem to be calming down. According to sources, the opposition demands that PM Modi should come to Parliament and explain himself on the issue. No other minister's statement will be accepted in his place.
