New Delhi: Former Congress National President Rahul Gandhi has said that his party has always been committed to raising the voice of the country. Rahul Gandhi reiterated his pledge of truth and equality on the party's foundation day. On the occasion of the party's foundation day, Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi also reached the party headquarters in Delhi.

Rahul Gandhi said in his official tweet that, 'Congress has been committed from the beginning to raise the voice of the country. Today, on the foundation day of the Congress, we repeat this pledge of truth and equality. Jai Hind!' The Indian National Congress was established on this day in 1885, 62 years before the country became independent. The Congress was founded by retired Scottish officer AO Hume.

The interesting thing is that the Congress party was founded by an English officer, but the president of the party remained Indian. The first president of the Congress was Vyomesh Chandra Banerjee of the Calcutta High Court. The partition of Bengal in 1905 gave a new identity to Congress. The Congress strongly opposed the partition. After this, Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa in 1915. Gandhi came to politics in 1919 from non-cooperation movement. After that, the Congress-led several movements under the leadership of Gandhiji. Civil Disobedience Movement, Quit India Movement etc.
